7 Common Questions about Pet Food

7 Common Questions about Pet Food

When it comes to our pets, we want to make sure their lives are as perfect as we can get them, right? The best toys, the best beds and blankies, and the best food. Pet food, though, can make even the best of us pet parents confused and even frustrated. If you fall into that category, then you’ve come to the right article! We’ve got a list of 7 common questions that people ask about pet food.

  1. Does my pet’s age matter when I buy pet food?
  2. a. Yes! Young pets will have different nutrition needs than older pets. Younger pets need more energy-dense foods to support growth. Older pets need certain nutrients to help with joint health. These are just a couple examples.

  3. Does it matter how I store my pet food?
  4. a. It does. You need to make sure to keep your pet food stored in a cool, dry place. You also want to keep it off the ground and sealed, away from sneaky pets…and kids.

  5. Should my pet eat a varied diet?
  6. a. There’s not much solid evidence that a varied diet is better for health, but it will help keep your pet from getting bored. It’ll also make it easier to switch food if you need to.

  7. Is there one type of food that is better for my pet?
  8. a. Just like with people, each pet will have a different set of dietary needs. Chat with your vet to find the best food to fulfill your pet’s needs.

  9. My pet is getting chunky. What do I do?
  10. a. Talk to your vet about how to monitor their food intake or if they need to switch to special food.

  11. Are raw food diets safe?
  12. a. Only if they are done with care. Talk to your vet to make sure that what you feed them is balanced and not risking infectious diseases.

  13. Can I feed my pet people food?
  14. a. Depends on what and how much of it. Do research to make sure that the foods you want to feed them aren’t toxic to pets. Feeding them too much will risk obesity, so be careful.

We hope you’ve gotten a little bit of new knowledge from this list! As you can see, people have plenty of questions about their pet food; you’re not alone in this. If you have any other pet questions, come visit us at Prestonwood Kennels here in Houston!
