7 Effective Ways to Exercise with Your Dog
If you love spending quality time with your pup but want to stay active, there are totally some great ways to do that! While not all exercises are appropriate for dogs to take part in (although if you can teach your pooch to salsa dance, we’d be very impressed), there are a good number of things you can do to get active with them! We’ve got a list of 7 activities you can do to exercise with your dog, coming right up.
- Walking/Running: This is a good starting point to help you and your dog stay in shape. You could walk, hike, jog, skip; whatever you want! Find a good course that you both love and get out there and explore.
- Yoga: Just like you sometimes need a good stretch, so does your pup. You can find “doga” classes that will be a relaxing experience for you and your dog where you will get a nice stretch.
- Weight training: Is your pet a Velcro baby that doesn’t leave your side? Might as well turn them into a weight for your routine! If they are calm enough, you can scoop them up for things like squats, wall sits, etc. Just be careful with them!
- Swimming: Always a good option for burning off energy, swimming is great for the joints of you and your dog.
- Stand-up paddleboarding: A great exercise for you while still spending time with your four-legged friend, stand-up paddleboarding with dogs has gained a good amount of popularity lately.
- Fancy fetch: While normal fetch may not seem like much exercise for you, it can be! Toss the ball as far as you possibly can, then do a round of a specific exercise until your dog makes it back. Switch up the moves, and this way you and your dog will get some good exercise.
- Agility courses: Whether you build it yourself or find a good one in town, you can run agility courses with your dog for a bit of fit fun. Learn some new tricks, burn off some energy, and have a blast doing it!
We hope something on this list will make a fun activity to keep you and your dog healthy and happy! Keeping yourself and your pet active is the key to a long and happy life together.
