Question #1 – Staffing

The first question that you should ask is what the staffing is like. Do they have a good balance of staff to dogs? This allows for better care of the pups. Are the people they hire fully vetted (pun intended) and trained? Having staff on site who know what they’re doing when it comes to taking care of a dog is important.

Question #2 – Cleanliness

Do they keep their facility clean and tidy? A clean doggy daycare is a healthy doggy daycare, so a visibly clean place is going to be a better choice. You should also ask about the types of cleaning products they use. Are they safe and non-toxic?

Question #3 – Activities

What kind of dog activities does the doggy daycare you’re looking into offer? Do they have playtimes? Do they do any training? A good doggy daycare will provide things for the pups to do throughout the day to keep them mentally and physically active, which keeps them healthy.

Question #4 – Security

This is a pretty big question is the facility safe and secure? Is there a solid fence around the area to keep all the dogs on campus? Is there some sort of video security system in place to allow the staff to keep an eye on everything? Is the facility kept free from debris and hazards? Keeping the facility safe is the first step to keeping your furry friends safe.

Question #5 – Separation

If you have any kind of concerns about how they section out the dogs, this is a key question. Ask if they do any sort of temperament testing. You can also ask if they separate the dogs into size groups. This is why some doggy daycares keep the dogs safe, is by making sure to keep any dogs with temperament issues with others who match, as well as keeping big dogs and little ones apart to prevent accidental play injuries.

Will the staff communicate with you during the day to give you updates? Do they have emergency contact protocols in place?

Lastly, ask if they have emergency plans in place in case of natural disasters. Staff should be trained on what to do in any sort of emergency situation.
